What your photographer wants for Christmas (gift guide!)

If we’re being completely honest, there’s not a lot your camera-using bestie will actually use.

I’ve received probably every camera-shaped keychain, necklace and knick knack one could receive when they do this profession. As cute as they are, they typically go unused because they just aren’t practical.

My husband (videographer) and I were talking about how it’s just a matter of information.

Many of the things we use daily in our work are soooo niche that unless you are in the world of photo and video, you would have no idea. Soooo if you have a photographer, filmmaker, vlogger, documentarian or curious camera user on your shopping list this holiday season here’s our gift guide, made especially to make your life and theirs, easier.

(P.S. This blog post uses affiliate links so some creator commissions are being made when you shop through the links!!)

Let's start with the big ticket items...

You know that cool belt that keeps your hands free and up to two cameras secure while you’re running around on a photo excursion? Yeah. It’s not cheap, but it is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.

If you’re shopping for a photographer who doesn’t have one yet, you’re about to be their best friend forever. Browse or buy here. (Use my code INDIA25 at checkout!)

It’s rare that a piece of gear actually changes your life, but this camera low key has. Ian bought this eight months ago and we have been quite literally obsessed ever since!!

Our secret weapon for travel content. A genius wedding video companion. My vlogging camera. Built in gimbal, RAW photo and D-LOG M 10 bit video capabilities in 4K. It’s small, discrete, lightweight and kinda cute. Perfect to level up your content or for a filmmaker—I swear we aren’t getting paid to say anything it is just that goooood! Shop here.

I received this as a gift and it is one of the best one's I've gotten!! This cross body is truly the perfect sized everyday purse that comes with wrist straps and clips for your camera. It doubles as a camera strap so you can keep what you need on your person while shooting. It holds your phone, film camera and a few small essentials. I use it for ceremonies and sessions and every time we travel. I sadly don't have a discount code for this one but shop here and keep an eye out for seasonal sales!

And now for the stocking stuffers!

Toss one in your camera backpack, your laptop sleeve, your suitcase, whatever you want! You can track your things If they get swiped and that peace of mind when toting around expensive camera gear is everything!!!!

Even better than a loose Airtag? Locking one into your camera body. This inexpensive attachment is on all of our cameras and a must have for travel in our opinion. Perf lil stocking stuffer babyyyy!

Trust me, if they don't have one, they need one. And if they don't need one, they're not a camera person ;)

We swear by these! They connect wirelessly over bluetooth orrrrr with a wire which make them perfect for long flights or editing into the night. They come in 3 cute colors and we've had ours for several years—to me, a steal especially given the price compared to other expensive headphone sets.

THE BEST waterbottle for travel, work, and stying hydrated on long shoot days. I bought mine after my other water bottle leaked all over my purse and I had had enough ahhah. Ian saw how great it was (And how perfect the 24oz size is for tossing into our gear backpacks while traveling!) so we got him one, too.

Now I edit the old fashioned way...but Ian has been loving this new editing tool. It's like a game controller you can customize the functions of each button to breeze through editing (plus I imigine it makes the work feel like an XBox challenge??).

Aftershoot Subscription (Photographers)

You wanna know how I edit sooooooo many images (like I think this year I'm up to 50k+??) and still have time to photograph, travel, and have a life? The answer is Aftershoot! It's an AI-based software that offers automated culling, editing and retouching and shaves hours off of ever gallery I edit. I have a discount code as well!

Score their lowest Cyber Monday seasonal sale right now as low as $7.99/month! Use this link.

Storyblocks (Videographers)

If you've ever wondered where all that roylaty free music comes from in the back of youtube videos and client projects? One of the places is Storyblocks ;) Ian uses this subscription service to grab music, sound effects, and even b-roll to level up projects and make them that much better. If your videographer is constantly editing footage and wants something to make it even better, a subscription might be the best idea yet. Shop here.

Now the truth is, behind every photographer, filmmaker, or amataur storyteller is this: an exhausted artist just trying to find their place in the world.

And what do they want? Everyday life to be slightly easier, more relaxing, and peaceful so that they can r&r and let the creativity flow.

For me, things like spa packages, massages, cozy candles, slippers, facials, nail kits, wine, dinner out or a date night in are easy and practical gifts that I love no matter the season.

Other ideas are and Audible or Netflix subscription, DoorDash, Uber Eats or any food service like Hello Fresh or Daily Harvest. If you're talking about someone who tends to have a lot of networking events a Nuuly or Rent the Runway subscription might do the trick. Or if this person just loves to learn and is just getting into the creative mood, a Masterclass or Youtube Premium subscription would be a thoughtful way to support their efforts.

What ideas would you add to this list??
