Summer Wedding Style: What to Wear as a Guest

If your fridge is filling up with wedding invites and save the dates, congrats! You are a beloved friend of many (or maybe a distant cousin?).

Most likely, you’re also probably a little worn out from ordering amazon gifts and booking travel plans for weekend weddings.

But nevertheless, wedding season is here. And whether this is your 5th or 50th wedding you’ve attended, your engaged friends are overjoyed at your involvement in their day.

As a professional wedding photographer, I have seen a lot of weddings. I’ve also seen a lot of guests dressed in all sorts of getups (neon camo, the mother in law in all white, canadian tuxedos…you name it).

So if you find yourself booking up your summer plans and wondering: what on earth are we wearing to weddings these days? then this post is for you.

Here’s a shortlist of summer wedding style ideas for guests:

mules

  • Quite literally the perfect shoe for your wedding event? jury is still out, but my eye is on the dressy mule.

maxi dresses

  • Cocktail dresses have their time, but nothing says sophistication quite like a maxi. Flowy, breezy, and elevated all while bringing a bright palette to the summer dance floor.

cutout looks

  • A little midriff never hurt nobody—especially at a summer soiree.

undone tuscan suit vibes

  • Does this man own a vineyard in Napa? Or live in the South of France? We may never know, but he has our full attention.

sockless men's looks

  • Something about a good ankle-baring look, ammiright?? gentleman this is the simplest way to level up your look this summer. Opt for invisible socks or low cut dress socks. Game changer.

casual blazers

  • Over the shoulders and through the ceremony to blazer town we go, these unisex coats work in formal and casual settings alike and spruce up any look

small purses are in

  • Yep, and are much better suited than a large workweek bag. Bring only the essentials—lipgloss, wallet, phone—and find the mini bag to accentuate your fit

blowouts and loose hair

  • Serena Van Der Woodsen locks are in, blown out and demi-casual but ready for anything
