It’s no secret, I call my cats my kids.
I know, I know they aren't actually my children—but from waking up in the middle of the night to them crying, scraping their vomit off of my carpet, and constantly spending money on food and toiletries, its definitely giving my husband and I a test run in parenthood.
If you feel the same and adore your pets, maybe you're considering having engagement or bridal photos with them (which, I fully support).
In this post, I’ll share some tips to ensure your photos are absolutely perfect and your pets are the shinning star.
1. Ask your Venue:
Before you bank on including your fur baby in the wedding day or photoshoot, make sure to chat with your venue ahead of time. Check if they're cool with pets on the grounds; some good questions to ask are: Are there any restrictions with the space itself? Are there options for potty breaks? Are there bowls for food and water or should we pack them? Are they allowed off leash?
2. Ask your photographer:
While most photographers are totally encouraging of pets in photos it’s always important to communicate your expectations with them. Ask if they have any allergies, or any gear or equipment that they’ll need to put away to accommodate the pet. Usually harsh lighting from a flash is fine around animals, but to be on the safe side, it’s worth asking about their style and comfort level.
3. Plan for their needs
Next, you’ll want to brainstorm ways to keep your furry pal comfy throughout the session. Is there someone who can take them after the photos with you?
If it’s your wedding day, is there a person you can designate to help out with them (even if they’re only on site for just for an hour or so)?
4. Dress to Impress:
Why should humans have all the fun? Feel free to dress up your pet in style. Whether it's a floral collar, a dapper bow tie, or a full-on wedding outfit, let your furry friend strut their stuff in style.
And as for you, just keep in mind lighter colors show paw prints easier—maybe keeping a treat and wipe on hand during photo time.
5. Expect Candid Cuteness:
Some of the best shots happen when your pet is just being themselves. Let them roam free and capture those spontaneous moments of joy and laughter. Trust us, these pics will be pure gold!
6. Go with the Flow:
Last but not least, remember to go with the flow. Pets can be unpredictable, so embrace the quirks and let your photographer work their magic.
Including your pet in your wedding pics is such a cute way to celebrate your special bond. If it feels like too much, maybe brainstorm another creative way to honor their place in your marriage. Perhaps naming a cocktail after a pet? Or including a pet painting or portrait into the decor? Whatever you choose, you'll capture unforgettable memories that you'll cherish forever.
